PRESS RELEASE
REDUCTION OF FREE STORAGE DAYS AT PORT KLANG
The Port Klang Authority has decided, after several postponements, the implementation of the reduced free storage days for import and export containers effective January 1, 2009.
Both Northport and Westports have decided to defer the implementation by another six months, to July 1, 2009. Northport and Westports took into account the current economic condition and the appeal from several trade associations to defer the implementation, as the industry needs a bit more time to adjust to the reduction.
Northport and Westports have advised all parties to be ready by July 1, 2009 as these changes are expected to improve further the efficiency level of the port operators and conform with the international standard for free storage days in ports. This fact featured strongly in the Port Klang Authority’s decision to give the go ahead for the January 1, 2009 implementation.
